According to Herodotus, born in Halicarnassos, the city was founded by Dorian colonists and one of the six members of the Dorian Confederation which used to gather in the temple of Apollo in Knydos. The Mausoleum of Halicarnassos, known as one of the seven wonders, was built in 350 B.C. by the king Mausole for his wife, Artemisia. The most beautiful remaining of this monument are today exhibited in the British Museum of London. Bodrum is today the owner of the unique (and magnificent) museum of underwater archeology of Turkey in the Saint Peter Castle, built by the Knights of Rhodes. While on excursion, you will follow the Lake of Bafa and see the site of Euromos, visit the amphitheater, the mausoleum and the Castle of Saint Peter.
